The History of St. Xavier’s Collegiate School, Maharo
At the request of the people of Sarsabad and surrounding villages at Maharo, the governing body of the Jesuits of Santal Society unanimously resolved to open an English medium school in 2013. Fr. Nirmal Raj was the provincial and the president of the governing body. To look after the opening of the school, the governing body appointed the Ad-hoc committee. The following were the members: Fr. Nirmal Raj – President, Fr. Anand Minj- vice- president, Fr. Arul Doss –
Secretary, Fr. Damian Tudu- treasurer, Fr. Mathew – member, Fr. Lourdu Xavier – member and Mr. Sonot Marandi – member.
The first meeting of the Ad-hoc committee met on 15.10.2013. In the first meeting the President briefed the members about the purpose of opening the school that is to cater quality education to Christian community and all others irrespective of religion, caste and creed. The Ad-hoc committee unanimously resolved to open the school from 9 th April 2014. Fr. Arul Doss and Fr.Anand Minj were entrusted the responsibility of framing educational ideals, rules and regulations of the school. In the 2 nd meeting dated 14.12.2013 the Ad-hoc committee members unanimously resolved to begin the school with the classes VI and VII in the science block of the college. The President of the Ad-hoc committee announced that Fr. Arul Doss S.J was appointed as the first Principal of the school from effect 09.04.2014.
The total number of the first batch of students was 27 (13 in class VII and 14 in class VI). Fr.Arul was transferred in June and Fr. Alban Minj was appointed as the Principal of the school from June 2014.
From the new academic year 2015- 2016 Managing Committee members unanimously resolved to open KG I, KG II and class I. From the academic year 2016 -17 the Managing Committee members decided to open classes III, IV and V.
Fr. Charles Tudu was appointed as the Principal of the school from effect 18 th June 2016. On 18 th June 2017 the Managing Committee decided to seek affiliation from ICSE board, Delhi. The CBSE course was followed before.
As per the requirement, by 03.03.2018 the land was leased in the name of St.Xavier’s Collegiate school for thirty years. Fr. Nirmal Raj was appointed as the Principal of the school in 2018. Fr.Michael Minj was appointed as the Physical instructor in 2018.
By Feb 2019 the NOC certificate was obtained from the HRD Jharkhand. Soon after the documents were forwarded to CISCE board for provisional affiliation. From 23 rd March 2019 the school was closed indefinitely due to Covid – 19 as per the government circular. The online classes were held.
Fr. Chanda Hemrom S.J was appointed as the Principal of the school from effect 13 th August 2020. The conditional provisional affiliation was granted in 2020. There were 35 students in class IX who were registered as the first batch to the CISCE.
Fr. John Robinson was appointed as a Secretary from effect 10 th May 2021. Fr. S.F David Raj was appointed as the new secretary from effect 10 th November 2021.
Fr. Chanda Hemrom, the Principal was replaced by Fr. A.S. Robinson as the acting Principal from the effect 31 st of May 2022.
Fr. Hillary D’Souza S.J and Vice – Principal Fr. Michael Minj S.J were appointed by Governing body of the Jesuits of Santal Society from the effect 1 st June 2023.
The School was permanently affiliated to CISCE on 3 rd September 2024.
There is an improvement in the infrastructure of the school. There is a school bus shelter, gallery in the ground, a basketball and volleyball court, kho-kho ground and well-furnished library.
Sr. Jayasri assumed the office of the Vice-Principal on 16 th March 2026.
